The City Commission is holding a special workshop on Vacation/Short Term Rentals this coming Wed, May 22 at 9am. The meeting will be held in the Alcazar Room. The Alcazar Room is located on the northwest side of the Lightner Building, 75 King Street. The format will be similar to a city commission meeting with public comment at the beginning followed by city commission discussion and professional testimony on the issue. The major difference is that Vacation/Short Term Rentals will be the sole topic of discussion. The city commission also may open up the meeting later to public comment as well, a departure from the regular meeting model.

This is an issue that has been of great concern to many neighbors in Old City South, particularly as non-owner occupied short term rentals have begun to appear in Old City South. Please consider attending this meeting, no matter which side of this issue you support, as your participation and civic engagement will emphasize to the commission the importance of this issue to the neighborhood.

Several neighbors have indicated that while they would be out of town for Wednesday’s City Commission Special Workshop on Vacation/Short Term Rentals (9am in the Alcazar Rm., the Lightner Bldg., 75 King St.), they would nonetheless like to send written comments to the commissioners.

Here are the pertinent email addresses for the city commissioners should you wish to email them your comments:
Mayor Tracy Upchurch: [email protected]

Vice Mayor Leanna Freeman: [email protected]

Commissioner Roxanne Horvath: [email protected]

Commissioner Nancy Sikes-Kline: [email protected]

Commissioner John Valdes: [email protected]
